Araucania is the 9th region of Chile and it is located in the southern part of the country. Its capital, Temuco, is 675 km south from Santiago, Chile’s capital. To get to Araucania you can take a 1 hour and 20 minute flight from Santiago to Temuco. The Araucanía Region is best known for its cultural heritage and endemic species, beautiful landscapes and wide variety of touristic options, if you want to see lots of nature and learn about the culture of the zone, this is your destination!

You have to visit Conguillio National Park (for accommodations in this area click here), consisting of 60,000 hectares this park offers beautiful sceneries where you can practice sports such as biking, trekking and kayaking, admiring at the same time the Araucarias, local trees that have been there for hundreds of years, and the local fauna.

This region is well known for being habited by mapuche communities, the largest pre-Columbian culture of Chile and the most numerous ethnic group in the country. If you want to know more about their traditions you can’t miss the Kila Leufu Farmstay located in Pucón, 83 km away from Temuco, there you’ll be able to live with a mapuche family, learn about their culture, go on horse rides and try delicious local food.
